Thanksgiving Burger 2016

November 24, 2016 by RiFFRaFF Leave a Comment

Turkey burgers? Yes, poultry can be used in burgers. Don’t worry, it’s not hamburger blasphemy. Scroll down for turkey hamburger cooking ideas.

By the way, Happy Turkey Day 2016 y’all!
happy thanksgiving turkey burger!Burgers always suit the season/holiday/event. Whether you like a beef hamburger or a turkey hamburger, make sure you have a messy, overfilling burger this Thanksgiving.

Cooking Turkey Burgers

Maybe you could try adding a little fat to the turkey meat so it’ll remain juicy while cooking. It’s not likely that anyone likes dried out burgers, so this might save your turkey burgers.

Grillin’ Turkey Burgers

Turkey burgers are great tasting and lower in fat (in case hamburger lovers really care!) because it’s a lean meat. You have to save the patty from the grill before it dries out. You need to cook poultry to 165°. So add a little fat to the meat. This might seem counterproductive, but it’s not if you use a fat that’s heart-healthy, like olive oil. Two tablespoons per pound of ground turkey ought to do it. The olive oil will keep the turkey hamburgers moist and juicy. A side effect is that it’ll also form a nicely browned crust on the outside of the burger. Oh, and it won’t stick to the grill.

Do You Like Onions?

If you are one who likes onions on your burgers, sauté 1 cup of diced onions in 2 tablespoons olive oil. Don’t overcook ’em. Mix the onions and the rest of the oil from the pan into 1 pound of ground turkey to form quarter pound patties (that means 4 patties out of the pound!). The oil-coated onions will add moisture and onion flavor to your turkey burgers.
