Everyone enjoys a good burger, and everyone also enjoys good cinema. What’s even better is combining the two and getting some of the most memorable hamburger scenes in movie history! Here is a list of 5 of the best hamburger-related scenes that we’ve seen in movies over the years.
First on the list is the 1997 comedy film Good Burger, starring Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell. Most commonly known as “Kenan and Kel.” Playing the roles as two teenagers working in a not-so-popular fast food restaurant, this comedic duo face unemployment when their restaurant’s business is put in jeopardy after a larger burger franchise opens up across the street and uses their outrageously huge “Mondo Burger” to steal away customers. But just as their new rival is about to completely take over their business, the two manage to expose the illegal secret ingredient used to make a Mondo Burger and they save the day, along with their restaurant, and become great friends.
Pulp Fiction
Made in 1994, Pulp Fiction is a comedy crime film that follows a nonlinear storyline about Los Angeles mobsters, small-time criminals, and a mysterious briefcase. Given an award for Best Original Screenplay and nominated for seven Oscars, this postmodern film is easily recognized as one of the greatest movies of all time. Of all the famously memorable scenes in this film, there are two that really appeal to us, and those are the scenes in which a hamburger is co-starred. In the beginning of the film, hitmen Vincent Vega and Jules Winnfield (John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson) are on their way to retrieve something for their boss, while also discussing Vincent’s recent experiences in Europe in which he goes into detail about how different the McDonald’s is over there. He mentions that instead of calling a quarter pounder with cheese just that, in Europe they call it “Royale with Cheese” because of the metric system. Once they’ve reached their destination, the pair confront a man who stole a very special briefcase from their gangster boss and interrupt his and his associates’ breakfast, which just so happens to be hamburgers from a local Hawaiian fast-food joint called the “Big Kahuna Burger.” In doing so, Jules begins to question the man and even asks if he can try the burger because his vegetarian girlfriend prevents him from ever being able to eat one. The man agrees and Jules bites into the Kahuna burger and is instantly satisfied and proceeds to say “This IS a tasty burger!” But now very parched, Jules also asks if he can have some of the man’s “tasty beverage” to wash down the burger. After doing so, Jules recites a passage from the Bible and then alongside Vincent, both execute the man. At least he ate a cheeseburger as his last meal, not a bad way to go out in my book.
Juno
It started with a chair….
Known for it’s iconic dialogue and soundtrack, the 2007 film Juno tells the story about a teen’s unplanned pregnancy and the subsequent events that force her into the pressures of adulthood. In the movie, Juno is an oddball who sometimes receives criticism from her parents and classmates for her straight-forward and quirky personality. During a scene in which Juno returns home from spending the afternoon panicking about her newly discovered pregnancy, she uses her incredibly unique hamburger phone to call an abortion clinic. While having a hard time hearing the receptionist on the other end of the line, she is famously quoted saying “Can you hold on for a sec? I’m on my hamburger phone.” and she then shakes the phone so she can hear better. I never realized before watching this movie for the first time how badly I actually needed a hamburger phone in my life, but now I can happily call myself the proud owner of one and I have Ellen Page to thank for that.
